Do not put a basking light INSIDE a snake cage. Your snake will wrap around it and burn itself.
I suggest a metal screen on top. You can set the lamp on it.
I agree, don’t actually put the bulb inside the cage. If it has to go inside the cage then you’ll need some kind of caging around the bulb so the snake can’t get to close.
It would help to know what kind of cage you have. Tank with screen top? Wood? Plastic? Easiest way is to cut a hole in the top (if it’s not screen) glue screen over the top hole and put the light on top. Liquid nails works great, just make sure it’s completely dry and don’t use it inside the cage. Make sure there’s no sharp edges the snake could get cut on.
Never put a light inside of a cage! Because it is warm your snake may climb up into the light.. and get burned. Just like you never used a heat rock with reptiles because they will get burned
Don’t put it inside! It will burn the snake severely! What you should do is get a screened top and set the bulb on top of it. We have a nail set up above our cage and a clip lamp so we clip the lamp to that and it doesn’t directly touch the cage. It still provides enough basking light and keeps the snake warm. Good luck!
I suppose it depends on what sort of cage you have. If it is glass, then I would have to agree with the others, in that you should put it above a screen top.
However, if you have a wooden vivarium, like I have, then it is very simple to put a bulb inside. If you are going to be using a normal bulb, then you can get a normal light fitting that can take the bulb (i.e. wattages), and fit this to the roof of the viv using screws. You could ask at your local reptile shop for advice on these. You should then be able to get a cage to go around it from a dedicated reptile shop.
The cable can go through a hole drilled in the back of the viv, but I would make the hole about the same diameter of the wire and then go around this with aquarium silicone once it is all in place.
If you are trying to put in a ceramic bulb, just make sure that the fitting is compatible with the ceramic bulb, and the wire you use is temperature resistant.
Hope it helps.
